A Titan CSR–supported initiative preserving India’s hand-spun, hand-woven legacy while uplifting rural artisans.
Spreading awareness about importance of sustainable farming, hand spinning, pre-loom activities, weaving, dyeing and others with an aim to boost self reliance among rural people, reinforcing lost skills and knowledge.
MG Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan Foundation is trying to transfer the skills and knowledge among the community who are not traditional weavers. The aim is to create new “artisanal” group as the traditional weavers or artisans are either shifting to other occupations or they are carrying out skill based expert task and their next generations are least interested in learning the crafts. Building a new artisan group with traditional comprehensive knowledge of spinning, pre-loom activity, weaving and natural dyeing will help to revive the craftsmanship and skills for the future generation meanwhile help the learning group to generate good income source and become self-reliant, mainly the woman who are trainees and are the First-Gen Non-Traditional Artisans.
Understanding each individual’s skills and nurturing them with tailor-made expertise, while continuously evolving and developing the best craftsmen through ongoing training.
Once individual skills and craft aptitude are identified, we develop them with the right niche-focused training to master a single craft.
Consistent monitoring and disciplined daily practice enable each artisan to achieve mastery in their chosen skill-based craft.
Once an artisan becomes proficient in a particular craft, they are supported in learning other aspects of the broader craft, enabling further growth, value addition, and continuous development under the guidance of master craftsmen.
Creating new skills among lay individuals is challenging without continuous supervision and close monitoring of the craft. However, once the practice becomes part of their daily routine, skill development becomes much easier—this is our goal.
Craft-based skills that promote self-reliance, support individual development, increase income, and foster sustainable livelihoods.
At present the organization is training 60 persons (from among the tribal, schedule caste and other backward class people) to equip them with adequate knowledge of weaving, pre-loom activities, spinning. The organization is trying to bridge the gap between the market and the producers by participating in various fairs, exhibitions and in online platform. MG Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan Foundation is taking initiatives to empower local artisans about the knowledge and skills of marketing and branding so that they can sustain their business in absence of MG Gramodyog Sewa Sansthan Foundation. This in turn is boosting their self esteem and confidence. Apart from that the organization is trying to encourage climate resilient practices among the community.
