Hand spinning is a process of twisting natural fibres to produce yarns. These yarns are then used to weave the clothes, hain spinning is mainly done by hand using spindles of different kinds like drop spindle, or spinning wheels called Charkha.
This activity used to be the oldest craft as it existed since the time wearing clothes started, using different tools and methods in all around the world.
as it is an primitive craft hence it is done without any kind of support like electricity or machinery… It is a completely sustainable and eco friendly method that begins with no artificial elements. Spinning is not only an art of making yarn but it is also a source of living in the rural places.
Most of the time spinners were woman who used to convert the cotton, silk, wool etc. into yarns and provide these yarns for weaving. These earlier days used to be an income source but due to industrialization, this beautiful craft lost its relevance, and people started to prefer machine made easy and fast spinning system to avoid delays in production and maximize the output and lower the efforts.
This led to invention of different types of spinning tools like, 8 SPINDLE AMBER CHARKHA, SOLAR CHARKHA, HAND DRIVEN AMBER CHARKHA, KISHAN CHARKHA, GANDHI CHARKHA, PETI (BOX) CHARKHA, BOOK CHARKHA. These are the modern styles and the first one is called as TAKLI – DROP SPINDLE.
